Threads & Traces
Made by Hand, Held by Heart
When look at my year in terms of crocheting it has been a wonderful year, filled with joy and lovely crochet projects. I wasn't kidding when I said I write stories wrapped in yarn. But not all of them are happy …some of them are just tragic, like this one.
This table runner has quite a backstory.
It was never meant to exist.
The plan was simple: a long table mat. But the edges refused to stay straight. I frogged it once, started again and again, it went slanting. At that point, instead of fighting it, I let it be. It turned into a table runner, though the slanting edge kept pulling the eye away from the delicate stitchwork.
So I thought: distract the distraction.
I crocheted little roses, the same ones I’d used in a coaster, and attached them to the edge. But they stood out too starkly, like an afterthought. Then YouTube came to my rescue. I stumbled upon a short tutorial on tiny leaves. I added them, layering rose and leaf, until the “mistake” edge looked intentional.
And that’s how this piece was born, my most chaotic crochet project so far. A stubborn mat that became a runner, a flaw disguised with flowers, a mistake turned into a story.
I love this one soo much! The pattern is everything and I crocheted in a straight line♡
This coaster is also a personal favorite of mine. Everyone loved it so much. I crocheted one for my cousin and one for my friend and two more for my room and hall.
The process of making this was tedious but the outcome was amazing. When I place the flower coaster in the center of this it becomes a lovely show piece which dominated my dressing table for the entire Dussehra vacation <3
This one's not that good but when my elder sister told that's it's one of the prettiest doilies, I was over the moon :)
I love this pattern so much, I feel it's my most challenging pattern. But I ran out of yarn… it will be a work in progress for a long time.
I crocheted all these bookmarks for my dear classmates. They were soo happy it made me overjoyed.
Indian style Thalposh and a purple doily as I had extra yarn (for the first time!)
Crochet flower bookmark!
This gift giving session was filled with hugs and sweet memories 💕
Christmas decor ✨️
I made a few more bookmarks but they were politely stolen by my classmates after “asking me”.
Random highlight— This orange doily was my first big project and dare I say one of my best, my Dad used it as a placement mat for offering Prasad to Lord Ganesh during Ganesh Chaturthi and we used it was a decor mat multiple times.
This is not something crocheted but hey its all flowery like my doilies …
This is my first Rangoli which some aunties made me do as the thought I was “creative”. Not bad for a first-time…
I almost forgot that I started learning hand embroidery.
These things are dear to me. They are the very essence of my soul and I'm glad my year has been filled with these creations.
Thank you for reading 💖
